The Pizza Party Problem
Three friends were hosting a pizza night, and everyone ordered something different. Mia bought two small pizzas and one large pizza for £26. Noah ordered one small and two large pizzas for £28. Later, their friend Ella joined and bought three small and three large pizzas for £54.
As the oven timer beeped, they started sorting the receipts. “These prices can’t be random,” said Noah, squinting at the slips. “There must be a pattern.”
Mia laughed. “You’re turning dinner into algebra again, aren’t you?”
“Of course,” he said. “Maths makes everything taste better.”
He grabbed a pen, started jotting numbers on the pizza box lid, and after a few quick calculations, smiled proudly. “Mystery solved – and the prices actually make sense.”
